Giugliano – A sudden fire lit up the quiet night on Via Aristide Gabelli, in the residential heart of Giugliano in Campania, transforming the private parking lot of a local family into an inferno of twisted metal and acrid smoke.
It was just after 23pm when the flames devoured two cars and a scooter, all likely belonging to the same family, leaving behind only rubble and questions.
Carabinieri from the Giugliano Company's Mobile Radio Unit responded promptly, extinguishing the fire before it spread to nearby homes. Attention is now focused on investigating an incident that may be threatening further developments.
The alarm was raised around 23.30pm last night, when a resident reported a "severe fire" to 112 in a fenced area, away from main roads that are busy during the day.
At the scene, the Carabinieri found the vehicles—a Fiat Panda, a Renault Clio, and a Piaggio scooter—already engulfed in flames, with the heat deforming their frames and a pungent odor wafting through the humid air of the Giugliano suburbs.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage to third parties: the owners, a family of workers from the neighborhood, were already safe in their home when the fire began to lick the tires.
Initial investigations by firefighters, who arrived to support the Carabinieri, currently rule out accidental causes. The vehicles, legally parked in a private garage with no immediate signs of forced entry, show signs consistent with a rapid and localized ignition, perhaps through the use of an accelerant.
The Carabinieri, coordinated by the North Naples Prosecutor's Office, are combing the area's surveillance cameras—few, but crucial—and taking door-to-door testimony. Examinations of the charred debris will be crucial to detect traces of gasoline or other flammables.
Meanwhile, the family involved, assisted by municipal social services, has filed a complaint and is awaiting compensation from their insurance company, should the accident prove to be accidental.
