They attempted to defraud an elderly couple by pretending to be police officers, but their act was short-lived. Two men, residents of Napoli and with criminal records, were arrested by the Carabinieri of Brisighella in Ravenna after an attempted scam failed thanks to the victims' composure and the rapid intervention of the police.
The two criminals had staged one of the most classic scams targeting the elderly: pretending to be military personnel, they called a couple from the Faenza area claiming that their car had been used to commit a robbery.

Meanwhile, the victim reported the incident to her husband, who, suspicious, left the house and encountered a Carabinieri patrol, explaining what was happening. The alarm was raised immediately: the operations center sent reinforcements, and within minutes, the officers intercepted the two scammers, who were stationed near the home and ready to intervene. After being apprehended and identified, the two fake Carabinieri officers were arrested and taken to the Ravenna prison, where they are now being held by the judicial authorities.
The episode confirms the attention of the police towards a phenomenon, that of scams for the elderly, which continues to strike throughout Italy, often with increasingly subtle methods but which, in this case, thanks to the civic sense and clear-headedness of the victims, was foiled in time.
