The earth has shaken again in Campania. A new, strong earthquake was recorded this evening, at 21:49 PM, with its epicenter located in Irpinia, in the seismic district of Avellino.
According to preliminary data released a few minutes after the event by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the earthquake had a provisional magnitude estimated between 3.9 and 4.4 on the Richter scale. Final data on the strength and exact depth of the hypocenter are expected in the coming hours.
The earthquake, which lasted a few seconds, was clearly felt by the local population, causing immediate concern.

The seismic wave spread rapidly across much of the region. The tremor was also distinctly felt in several other provinces: numerous reports came from Naples, particularly from the upper floors of buildings, from Salerno, and from the entire province of Benevento.
Civil Protection and the Fire Department immediately initiated assessment procedures. Operations rooms are monitoring the situation and collecting any critical issues. Fortunately, there are currently no reports of damage to people or property, but the alert remains high pending further investigation.
