Naples – A thwarted robbery in the middle of the afternoon: Police stopped the robber a few blocks from the theft, recovering the motorcycle, a phone, and €30. The man, with a criminal record, resisted but was arrested.
Amid the afternoon traffic chaos on Viale Acton, in Fuorigrotta, a 42-year-old Neapolitan man attempted a major heist: a scooter, a phone, and a 30-euro note ended up in his pocket, at the expense of an unfortunate passerby.
But the State Police wasted no time: a report to the Operations Room triggered a swift intervention by the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, transforming the complaint into a formal arrest.

The victim, still shaken, told the officers who arrived on the scene within minutes: the attacker, a precisely described man in his forties, had approached him without warning and taken his belongings. Thanks to the descriptions he provided and the images captured by surveillance cameras, investigators traced the robber to Via Giacomo Leopardi, a stone's throw from the crime scene.
There, while attempting to sneak home, he was intercepted. It wasn't an easy stop: the 42-year-old, with a prior conviction for similar crimes, resisted the officers, but eventually surrendered. In his pocket were the freshly stolen €30; nearby was the stolen scooter. He faces serious charges: aggravated robbery and resisting arrest.
Arrested on the spot, the man is now at the disposal of judicial authorities, while the victim, with a sigh of relief, received her belongings back. This operation underscores the effectiveness of local controls: in Naples, where street thefts are commonplace, these quick raids send a clear message to criminals. Investigations are ongoing to identify any possible accomplices.

Yes, it's truly worrying. Even if the police are doing their job, there needs to be more prevention and enforcement. You can't live in fear of being robbed while walking.
It's strange how quickly things happen. The police were good at stopping the thief, but there are questions about how these situations still happen in the city. Security should be higher.
