A night of tight controls has turned on the blue flashing lights of the Carabinieri of the Poggioreale Company on the streets of Barra and in the surrounding neighborhoods of eastern Naples. The extraordinary operation, which involved dozens of patrols, resulted in reports, seizures, and fines.
The most striking episode concerns a 29 year old San Giorgio a Cremano, reported for Theft aggravated: according to the investigations, he would have stolen a purse kept in the sacristy of the church of Maria Santissima di Caravaggio in Corso Sirena. During the checks, a 31-year-old from Ponticelli he did not stop at the stop imposed by the military: after a short chase he was stopped and reported for resistance to a public official.
Discovered that he was driving with license revoked, the vehicle was seized. Also in trouble is a unauthorized parking, already sanctioned previously. A San Giovanni a Teduccio, father and son were stopped on the street with 26 grams of marijuana and they will have to answer for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The checks also involved commercial activities: in one butcher's shop on Corso Sirena the Carabinieri seized 45 kilos of cured meats without labels or traceability and a bakery in Corso Bruno Buozzi was closed and fined for serious sanitation deficiencies, with the seizure of 20 kilos of bread. Same fate for a grocery store in the same area, fined for approximately 5mila euros.
Hygiene problems also detected in a bar on Via VelottiFive young people, found in possession of small quantities of drugs, were reported to the Prefecture as drug users. The Carabinieri announce that the checks will continue in the next few days to ensure safety and legality on the territory.

It's a good thing there are such strict controls, but sometimes I wonder if they're truly effective. Theft and drugs are serious problems, and I hope the situation improves over time. Simply reporting is not enough.
