A Romanian citizen was arrested while attempting to steal some boxes of chocolates worth 100 euros from a supermarket on Via Nazionale.
According to the reconstruction of the local Carabinieri station, the suspect—a 25-year-old Romanian national with no fixed abode and already known in the news for petty crimes—was caught red-handed by the store's security staff.

Taking advantage of the rush in the food and wine section, the man had hidden several Ferrero packages. Surveillance cameras captured the entire sequence: the thief, casually, bagged the stolen goods and headed for the exit, unaware that he was already under surveillance.
Alerted immediately by radio, the Carabinieri of the Torre del Greco Company arrived on the scene in less than five minutes, with two patrols blocking every escape route. The young man, identified thanks to the documents found on him, offered no resistance and partially admitted his responsibility, citing "financial difficulties" as the reason for his actions. He was taken to the barracks on Via Tironi and subjected to standard procedures.

Security in supermarkets should be increased to prevent incidents like this. I hope this event leads to increased controls and prevention, so that similar incidents never happen again.
Stealing isn't right, but we also need to understand people's situations. Perhaps this young man truly needs help, not just punishment for his wrongdoing.
It's incredible how people can steal for so little, although I understand the financial hardship. But Ferrero Rocher aren't that essential to everyday life; there are cheaper and more legal alternatives.
