Naples – Centuries of prison time have been spent halting the Camorra's war for the conquest of Miano. Preliminary Investigating Judge Giordano has meted out a veritable blow to the bosses and underlings of the rival Scognamiglio and Pecorelli-Catone clans, the groups that emerged from the ashes of the historic Lo Russo clan to seize a monopoly on illicit business in the neighborhood.
The trial, conducted using the expedited procedure and resulting from a massive investigation by the police and Carabinieri, concluded yesterday with 18 convictions for a total of over 227 years of prison time. The charges, variously, range from Camorra association to drug trafficking, including extortion and ambushes.
The feud over the "Capitoni" inheritance
The investigation, which led to 18 arrests on June 26, 2024, shed light on the feud that erupted among Lo Russo veterans for control of drug dealing and racketeering hubs. A war fought with no holds barred, against the backdrop of which high-profile murders were committed.
Although the two main crimes—that of Salvatore Milano (known as "Totore 'o Milan"), killed in a bar in April 2021, and that of Antonio Avolio, killed on a scooter in June 2021—will be tried in the Assize Court, the investigation has clarified the dynamics and responsibilities that armed the killers.
The ruling read yesterday by the investigating judge (GIP) struck a blow to the clan leaders. While it recognized that several defendants, even "high-profile" ones, were subject to further definitive sentences, the sentences were extremely severe, reaching nearly 20 years for the instigators.
