Benevento - A "chemical bomb" of illegal products, ready to end up in the hands of unsuspecting consumers, especially children, just before Halloween. This is what Guardia di Finanza officers from the Solopaca branch discovered and defused in a series of raids in the Benevento area.

The operation, which began with safety checks on products on sale for the occasion, led to the seizure of an impressive haul: over 140.000 non-compliant and potentially dangerous items, seized from six different businesses.

The products, lacking even the most basic safety guarantees, ranged from cosmetics and personal items to toys, costume jewelry, and even Christmas decorations, already on display on the shelves.

The first raid took place at a shop in Limatola. There, the financial police located 11.500 beauty and personal care items, all lacking the mandatory information about their origin, composition, and possible harmful substances.

Shortly after, in Benevento, 19 were discovered in another commercial establishment.

000 products do not have the essential CE mark, which certifies their compliance with European safety standards.

But the flurry of seizures hasn't stopped. In Montesarchio, 32.000 items including costume jewelry, stationery, and Christmas tree decorations were seized, all lacking mandatory consumer information. The same fate befell 1.650 products in a Paduli store: children's playing cards, plastic dolls, and stickers, all lacking instructions and warnings in Italian.

The next day, the crackdown continued in Solopaca, with the seizure of 10.200 items intended for personal use and lacking basic safety requirements, and in Airola, where the military seized the largest haul: 68.400 Christmas decorations and gift items found to be non-compliant with the provisions of the Consumer Code.

The local inspection operation was followed by an administrative one. All business owners were reported to the Irpinia-Sannio Chamber of Commerce for violation of Legislative Decree no. 206/2005 (Consumer Code). Administrative fines totaling approximately €6.000 were imposed against them.

The operation highlights the Corps' ongoing commitment to consumer safety and fair competition, an activity that intensifies around the holidays, when the market fills with low-cost products that too often lack the necessary legal requirements.

A warning to irresponsible retailers and a reassuring message for families: the Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) is vigilant in removing from circulation any products that, hidden behind bright colors and attractive prices, may pose health risks.

The article is interesting, but I wonder why there are so many dangerous products on sale. It seems there aren't adequate controls. It's important to protect children from potentially harmful products. We should do more.
