Piano di Sorrento – Another life lost on the asphalt of the Sorrento Peninsula. Umberto Schisano, a 29-year-old from Sorrento, is the latest victim of a traffic accident that occurred yesterday evening around 9:10 PM on Via delle Rose in Piano di Sorrento.

The man was riding his motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed to the ground. Despite immediate assistance, Schisano died at the scene. Carabinieri from the Sorrento branch, alerted by witnesses, quickly responded to the accident site, where they found the young man lying on the asphalt.

The body was immediately seized for autopsy tests ordered by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office, which is now investigating the exact causes of the tragedy: investigators are examining both environmental factors - such as the asphalt made slippery by the autumn rain - and any possible responsibility of the motorcyclist, who was travelling alone with no other vehicles involved.

The Schisano tragedy is not an isolated incident, but the latest chapter in a silent massacre plaguing Naples and its province. According to preliminary data from the Highway Police, in the first nine months of 2025 alone, there were over 150 fatalities on the Campania road network, a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.

The Sorrento Peninsula, with its winding roads and seasonal tourist traffic, remains a danger hotspot: suffice it to say that, since the beginning of October, at least three young people under 30 have lost their lives in similar accidents, including fatal skids and high-speed impacts.

Industry experts point the finger at poor lighting, inadequate maintenance of secondary roads, and the reckless use of two-wheeled vehicles, often lacking adequate protection.

It's truly sad to hear of another young man losing his life in a car accident. We hope the authorities do something to improve road safety, because this isn't right. Every life lost is a tragedy.
