NAPLES – A wrist operation turned into an ordeal for Anna Fedele, 66, who is now 30% disabled with the total loss of function in her left arm. The Civil Court of Naples Napoli has ordered compensation for her of over 137 thousand euros, ascertaining the responsibilities of the Cto of the Colli Hospital for serious omissions in the clinical management of post-operative patients.
The woman was hospitalized on September 11, 2022 for a fractured wrist and operated on the 15th.

"As soon as I was discharged, the wound was already infected. I immediately returned to the CTO, but they left me without treatment for days. I risked my life and lost the use of my arm.", says Fedele, who also suffered from depression after the complications. The judge, thanks to a preliminary technical assessment, highlighted the lack of antibiotic prophylaxis, delayed diagnosis, and inadequate treatment. “This case – comments the lawyer Luciano Palermo – It shows how important it is to report: justice can be achieved. We need a law requiring internal sanitization in hospitals; outsourcing it to external companies is risky for patients."

Anna Fedele's story is very sad and raises questions about the quality of healthcare in Italy. There are too many cases of medical malpractice that go unreported, and this is a serious problem that must be addressed urgently.
