It was a hectic night in Maddaloni, the scene of a violent chase that led to the seizure of a large quantity of copper, the red gold at the heart of a thriving black market. The incident began on Via Forche Caudine, where a patrol from the Carabinieri Radiomobile Unit ordered an Audi to stop.

Contrary to orders, the driver suddenly accelerated, prompting a high-speed escape in the company of a truck with Polish license plates. A high-voltage chase ensued along the SS 700 bypass, towards Maddaloni and Caserta.

The seizure of the mysterious cargo

After several kilometers, the officers managed to catch up with the truck. At that point, the fugitives' pursuit came to an abrupt halt: the vehicle was abandoned by three people who promptly fled, disappearing into the thick vegetation of the surrounding countryside before the Carabinieri could stop them.

Attention immediately focused on the cargo.

The investigations and the mystery of the origin

The seizure not only involved the material, but also the truck itself. Initial investigations have revealed a curious detail: at this time, the heavy vehicle, with Polish license plates, does not appear to have been stolen.

The investigations, coordinated by the local company, are now focusing on two fronts:

Identification of the Fugitives: The search is underway to put a face to the three people who disappeared into the countryside.

Copper Traceability: The primary objective is to determine the copper's provenance. Investigators are working to determine whether the recovered material was stolen (perhaps from businesses, construction sites, or power lines) and to reconstruct the entire transportation network and destination of the alleged stolen goods. The use of a non-stolen vehicle with foreign license plates complicates the tracing process and suggests a potential transnational logistics organization in the illicit trafficking of this red gold.
