Naples – The Campania Region's Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow-level weather alert for the entire day of Wednesday, October 15, due to a new low-pressure system that will affect large areas of the region.

The warning, issued on the basis of assessments by the Campania Functional Centre, concerns in particular the Campanian Plain, Naples, the islands of the Gulf, the Vesuvian area, the Sorrento-Amalfi peninsula, the Sarno Mountains and the Picentini Mountains.

According to forecasts, the first phenomena will appear around midnight and continue until 23:59 PM tomorrow, with precipitation that could take on a thunderstorm character and be of strong intensity on a local scale.

In particular, sudden and violent showers are expected, accompanied by hail, lightning and gusts of wind, especially along the coast and in island areas.

The Civil Protection Department warns that the weather forecast is characterized by significant uncertainty, a condition that could lead to rapid and locally intense developments in phenomena.

Possible effects of severe weather include flooding of roads and underground spaces, rising water levels, landslides and falling rocks, as well as damage to roofs and exposed structures due to strong winds and waves.

Authorities advise residents to exercise extreme caution when traveling, avoid underpasses, coastal areas, and areas prone to flooding, and avoid standing under trees or scaffolding that could be damaged by gusts of wind.

The regional civil protection system will remain operational for the entire duration of the alert, monitoring the situation and providing real-time updates.

The weather warning was rightly issued, but forecasts are sometimes inaccurate. I hope the authorities will make the right decisions to protect the public and monitor these phenomena.
