Naples – An incident that cast a shadow of concern over the school system in the Materdei neighborhood occurred this morning at a local comprehensive school.
The State Police reported a minor of just 12 years old for possession of weapons or objects capable of causing harm, after a switchblade was discovered in a student's backpack.
It all started with a report to the Dante Police Station Operations Room, which immediately mobilized officers to the scene. The note, coming from inside the school, described an alarming situation: during class time, a teacher had accidentally inspected one of her students' backpacks and found the knife hidden among the books and notebooks.
The boy, realizing his discovery, reacted impulsively, hastily leaving the school building without waiting for the results of the search. Police officers, who arrived on the scene within minutes, took the teacher's statement, confirming the details of the incident.
The woman, visibly shaken, explained that the discovery had occurred in a routine context, during a random check of students' personal belongings – a common practice to ensure safety in schools.

It didn't take long for the situation to evolve: the minor, accompanied by his mother, voluntarily presented himself at the Dante Police Station to clarify the matter.
The mother's presence helped manage the incident calmly, avoiding further tension. Investigators immediately seized the knife, an object that, despite its small size, falls under the category of bladed weapons prohibited to minors.
The 12-year-old was therefore formally reported to the competent Juvenile Justice Authority, which will now evaluate the circumstances and adopt the most appropriate measures, potentially including educational programs or sanctions commensurate with his age. The incident, although isolated, refocuses attention on the issue of safety in Neapolitan schools.
In recent months, similar reports—often linked to youth emulation or bullying—have seen a slight increase, prompting law enforcement and school administrators to step up checks and awareness campaigns.
The child's mother cooperated fully with the authorities, and the school announced that it had activated psychological support for the affected class. This is a reminder that daily supervision remains the most effective weapon against unpredictable events.

This article is very interesting, but there are some things I don't understand, like why a 12-year-old boy had a knife at school. Let's hope the situation resolves itself without too many problems and that the kids learn from their mistakes.
