Naples – Fear and apprehension in the Ponticelli neighborhood of eastern Naples, where a large-scale fire broke out in an industrial warehouse.
The alarm was raised around 21:50 PM. The flames attacked a building on Via Principe di Napoli, which turned out to be the "Martinelli" warehouse, a well-known car parts retailer.
Within minutes, a thick column of black smoke rose from the building, visible for kilometers, blown by the wind toward residential areas. The nature of the stored material—plastics, oils, tires, and other mechanical components—immediately raised serious concerns about the potential toxicity of the fumes.
Following a report to 112, numerous teams of Fire Brigade members promptly intervened on site, supported by patrols of the Carabinieri from the Barra Station and the Radiomobile Unit of the Naples Group.
While firefighters began complex extinguishing operations to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other structures, law enforcement cordoned off the area.

As a precaution, authorities have issued an urgent warning to residents in the surrounding areas: "Keep windows and balconies closed and limit your travel." The goal is to prevent potentially harmful fumes from filling homes.
Environmental monitoring The operation will continue for hours. Once the flames are contained and the area is secured, technicians from ARPA (Regional Environmental Protection Agency) will intervene.
It will be their job to install monitoring stations to analyze air quality and detect the presence of dioxins or other pollutants released by combustion.
No injuries or poisoning have been reported at this time. Initial investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire; no avenues have been ruled out.
