Naples – Yet another incident has brought the spotlight back to the issue of gun scares in schools. On the same day a 14-year-old boy was stabbed outside a school in the historic center, another disturbing discovery was made at a school in the Colli Aminei area.
Yesterday morning, Carabinieri officers from the Naples Marianella station responded to the 35° Scudillo Carafa Salvemini Comprehensive School after a report from the teaching staff. The alarm was raised by a teacher who had noticed suspicious movements among several students in the boys' restrooms.
Suspicious, the teacher decided to personally inspect the premises and, inside the toilet cistern, discovered a 19,5-centimeter-long knife. The weapon, immediately seized by the military, was examined to determine its provenance and to determine whether it could be linked to incidents of threats or acts of intimidation among students.
The investigation is ongoing: the Carabinieri are interviewing teachers and some students to determine who may have hidden the weapon inside the school.

A growing phenomenon
The discovery of a knife in a school bathroom comes at a time already marked by a new wave of juvenile violence in Naples and its province, which has seen a worrying escalation in recent months: stabbings, threats, and even weapons found in students' backpacks.
A sad record, that of the Neapolitan capital, where schools seem to increasingly become a hub of tension, fear, and social unrest. The discovery at Colli Aminei, paralleled by the attack on the fourteen-year-old in the heart of the city, paints a picture of unrest that is no longer marginal but widespread, involving families, institutions, and law enforcement.
The reactions
Concern and bitterness are filtering through the school, but also a desire not to downplay the situation. "Our job is to protect the kids and intervene immediately when we see signs of risk," a teacher reportedly confided. Meanwhile, the Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office has been informed of the incident and is closely monitoring the case.

It's important that schools be safe places for everyone, but this incident raises questions about how children are exposed to dangerous situations. More must be done to protect students and ensure similar incidents never happen again.
