Naples - A disturbing picture, revealing the shadow of organized crime poised to infiltrate public procurement, even using the offices of a healthcare institution as a stage for threats.
The State Police raid in Portici began at dawn on October 21st, executing a criminal arrest warrant issued by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate. A man was arrested on very serious charges of attempted extortion aggravated by mafia methods.
The investigation and threats in public offices
The operation marks the end of a complex investigation conducted by the Naples Flying Squad and coordinated by the magistrates of the DDAThe investigators employed a rigorous investigative apparatus, consisting of wiretaps and environmental surveillance, coupled with high-risk surveillance and shadowing.
Thanks to these technical investigations, a particularly serious matter has emerged. According to the prosecution, the suspect attempted by all means to exclude a competing company from a crucial contract: the remediation of the "former Q8" site of national interest in Naples.
The most alarming detail, which highlights the arrogance and unscrupulousness of the criminal action, is that the threats to the owner of the competing company allegedly occurred, on some occasions, even inside the premises of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro.

The mafia method and the "front man"
The suspect's objective was clear: to destroy his rivals in order to favour a company which, although formally registered in the name of a front man or a person close to him, was in fact managed by him himself.
To achieve his goal, he apparently didn't hesitate to use the strongest possible tactics. The threats leveled at the competing entrepreneur were, in fact, aggravated by his explicit reference to his membership in organized crime circles operating in the eastern part of Naples. A clear, mafia-style warning to enforce the clan's "law" on procurement contracts.
Validation of the arrest
Simultaneously with the arrest, Mobile Squad officers conducted targeted searches at the suspect's home and at the headquarters of the company linked to him. During the searches, numerous accounting documents were found and seized. Investigators are now examining the entire network of economic interests.
The arrest was validated by the competent Preliminary Investigations Judge (GIP) at the Court of Naples, who, accepting the request of the Prosecutor's Office, ordered the suspect to be held in prison as a precautionary measure.
