NAPLES – In Naples, October 30th is no ordinary day. It's a celebration that transcends time and religion, a "secular Christmas" in honor of Diego Armando Maradona. This year, in 65 DD—"After Diego," as Maradona fans call him—the city is preparing to celebrate its soccer god at the table, too, with a gourmet evening at Ostaria Pignatelli.
Last year, the restaurant paid homage to the Pibe de Oro by introducing "Spaghetti alla Maradona" to the menu, a simple yet passionate dish with garlic, oil, fried breadcrumbs, and chili pepper. For 2025, the dedication becomes a true convivial ritual: a dinner entirely inspired by Diego, with dishes and stories that reveal his most authentic soul.
The protagonists of the evening will be two exceptional witnesses: Sabatino Sirica, the historic pastry chef of Calcio Napoli, and Francesco De Luca, now head of the sports editorial team of The morning, at the time a young reporter following issue 10.

Chef Vincenzo Politelli will pay homage to the legend with a menu that combines Naples and Buenos Aires: alongside Spaghetti alla Maradona, “Pasta, potatoes and provola” – a dish that became a lucky charm after a dinner at Bruscolotti's house before a match won against Juve – and the inevitable asado, the Argentine barbecue that celebrates slowness and conviviality.
A banquet that is much more than a dinner: it is an act of love for the man who, with a ball, rewrote the destiny and identity of a people. Because in Naples, thirty-five years after his arrival, Diego is not just a memory: he is still the faith that unites an entire city.
