Naples - A sea of volunteers and prisoners on day release, armed with gloves and bags, come together to restore dignity to one of Naples' iconic landmarks. On Saturday, October 25th, "Plastic Free" and "Second Chance" return, the initiative combining environmental commitment and social inclusion, following last May's success, which led to the removal of 3,7 tons of waste in 12 cities.

The event: a winning synergy between environment and justice

At Rotonda Diaz, overlooking the Gulf of Naples, citizen volunteers and inmates of the Secondigliano prison on day release will gather side by side. The goal: to clear plastic and all types of waste from the rocks and beach, in a concrete action that represents both local care and a path to redemption.

The initiative, sponsored by the Campania Regional Council and the City of Naples, demonstrates how it is possible to build cleaner and more caring communities through collaboration between associations, institutions, and citizens.

A journey that has lasted three years

The October 25th event marks the next step in a journey that began three years ago between Plastic Free Onlus, an organization committed to fighting plastic pollution, and Seconda Chance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the social and work reintegration of prisoners.

The success of the May edition—with 400 participants, including 114 inmates, who removed 3,7 tons of waste—demonstrated the effectiveness of this model, which combines environmental protection with the value of social redemption.

The network that supports the initiative

The project is growing thanks to a dense network of collaborations: from the prison administration to the Supervisory Authority, from municipalities to urban waste management companies, to local associations and volunteers from across Italy.

A concrete example of how we can jointly address two social emergencies: environmental pollution and marginalization, demonstrating that change comes through concrete actions and everyone's collaboration.
