Four criminals armed with iron bars, two scooters, and a brutal attack to steal a ten-year-old car and a cheap watch. This is the nightmare experienced yesterday, Tuesday, October 14, by a 30-year-old man on the Asse Mediano highway in the Neapolitan hinterland, in an episode that captures the dramatic escalation of petty crime.

The victim, the boyfriend of the daughter of a Neapolitan citizen who had moved to France, was driving along the Marigliano highway when he was intercepted by the criminals. With the two scooters lining up alongside him, the young man was forcefully ordered to hand over his car. His instinctive action—throwing away the keys to prevent the theft—almost cost him his life.

The four attackers surrounded him and repeatedly beat him with iron bars and kicked him, in a blind and brutal attack. Left on the ground in a pool of blood, the 30-year-old was rescued and taken to the hospital.

The medical toll is dramatic: a fractured wrist that will require surgery, severe bruises, hematomas around the eye, and numerous cuts on his legs and arms that required stitches.

The young man, still hospitalized, filed a complaint with the Cardarelli Police Department.

The dramatic appeal of the father of France

The incident was reported to Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli directly from the girl's father, who has been living in France for some time. His words capture the desperation of an entire community: "What happened to my daughter's boyfriend is not just a personal tragedy, but a symptom that leaving Naples and Italy is not just a matter of work, but of survival. Leaving is almost a prerequisite for a civilized life."

The response from MP Borrelli was very harsh: "We are invaded by criminal scum who do not hesitate to beat a man to a pulp and leave him near death just to steal a car or a watch worth a few euros. These criminals are ready to kill for a few pennies."

The parliamentarian makes an operational proposal: "We demand immediate strengthening of controls and the deployment of plainclothes officers along the Asse Mediano and in all strategic areas where these incidents have become a 'regularity'. We must respond with the utmost firmness."

The incident refocuses attention on the security crisis in the Naples province, where petty crime appears to have surpassed all limits of violence, transforming the main roads into hunting grounds for increasingly unscrupulous gangs.
