More than a month after the fire that set fire to the industrial area of Gianturco, Napoli, environmental safety is once again being discussed. During a meeting convened by Prefect Michele di Bari, at the request of the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the immediate removal of the gas cylinders still present at the site hit by the flames on September 23rd was ordered. This decision was necessary to eliminate any possible residual risk following the intervention of the firefighters, who had already secured the area in the first hours following the fire.

The meeting at the Prefecture was attended by the municipal councilor for Legality Antonio De Iesu, the president of the IV Municipality Maria Caniglia, the provincial commander of the fire brigade Giuseppe Paduano and representatives of all the law enforcement agencies: police headquarters, carabinieri, financial police, together with technicians from the ASL Napoli 1 Centro and the Territorial Labor Inspectorate.

All agencies agreed on the need for coordinated action to ensure compliance with safety regulations in the area's numerous commercial businesses, an area where the coexistence of warehouses, workshops, and storage facilities increases the risk of accidents or spills.

The Prefecture has announced that the matter will remain under close monitoring and will be the subject of further technical discussions in the coming weeks, to ensure that the removal and cleanup operations proceed quickly and safely. Gianturco, once again, finds itself confronted with the environmental and industrial fragilities that have plagued the eastern suburbs of Naples for years.

It's important that something be done for environmental safety, but I hope there won't be any more problems like this in the future. Removing the cylinders is a necessary step to reduce risks and protect citizens.
