Naples - In anticipation of the All Souls' Day celebrations, the City of Naples has implemented a comprehensive traffic control system to regulate traffic in the areas leading to the Poggioreale cemeteries.

The ordinance, signed by the Autonomous Mobility Service, will be in effect over the next two weekends to allow citizens to pay their respects to their loved ones in safe and orderly conditions.

The restrictions will start on Saturday, October 25th, from 7 am to 1 pm, while they will be extended from 6 am to 13 pm (and in any case until no longer necessary) on Sunday, October 26th, Saturday, November 16st, and Sunday, November 2nd, when the greatest influx of visitors is expected.

Parking restrictions and one-way streets

The measure includes a parking ban with forced removal from several strategic roads: Largo Santa Maria del Pianto, Via Santa Maria del Pianto, Via del Riposo, and Via Nuova Poggioreale, in the section between the intersection with Via Santa Maria del Pianto and Via Michele Parise.

One-way traffic systems will also be established:
in via Santa Maria del Pianto, from the confluence of via del Riposo up to via Stadera;
in via del Riposo, from largo Santa Maria del Pianto to the confluence with via Santa Maria del Pianto;
on Viale Umberto Maddalena, from Largo Santa Maria del Pianto to the intersection with Via Oreste Salomone and exit 3 of the Naples ring road (direction motorways).

Traffic closures and turning requirements

Vehicular traffic is also prohibited on Via Santa Maria del Pianto (from the square of the same name to Via del Riposo) and on Via De Giaxa, from number 5 — home to the Local Police Headquarters — to Viale Umberto Maddalena.

Vehicles coming from Via Briganti must turn left onto Viale Umberto Maddalena, while turning right towards Largo Santa Maria del Pianto is prohibited for those coming from Calata Capodichino and Piazza Di Vittorio.

Reserved lanes and parking areas

Exceptions to the rule apply to city buses, taxis, NCC (non-drive vehicles), emergency vehicles and law enforcement vehicles, as well as Civil Protection vehicles, hearses, and vehicles carrying disabled people with a valid parking permit.

At the intersection of Via Santa Maria del Pianto and Via del Riposo, a reversing lane reserved for ANM vehicles will be established, while two parking areas dedicated to urban public transport will be operational near the triangular flowerbed, on the side of the cemetery's main entrance.

Restrictions on heavy vehicles and closure of the Masoni ramp

Goods vehicles will not be able to use Via Santa Maria del Pianto, Via del Riposo, and Via Nuova Poggioreale between Via Santa Maria del Pianto and Via Michele Parise.
Finally, the entrance from Via Masoni to the access ramp to the Perimetrale di Scampia will remain closed, in order to facilitate traffic flow from the northern area.
