Naples: A 34-year-old man was arrested after a tourist's phone was stolen while she was taking a selfie.

The thief, already known to law enforcement, was identified by the Flying Hawks after a brief escape. The intervention of an off-duty officer was decisive.

Naples – He took advantage of a moment of distraction, when two tourists were taking a selfie in Piazza Porta Capuana, to approach and snatch the phone from one of them. But the 34-year-old, with a criminal record, escaped quickly.

The man was arrested by officers of the Flying Squad on charges of improper robbery, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official.

The alarm was raised by a State Police officer on duty at the Belluno Police Headquarters, who was off duty in Naples.

The policeman noticed the scene and attempted to stop the criminal, who kicked him to free himself, temporarily managing to disappear.

The Falchi's investigation, based on the descriptions provided and a photo taken by the tourists of the suspect moments before the theft, led to the 34-year-old's location on Corso Garibaldi. The man was apprehended and taken to the police station, while the phone was returned to its rightful owner.

The judge validated the arrest and ordered the 34-year-old to be held in prison.

The article is interesting, but I'm not sure if the arrest was necessary. I think there are better ways to handle situations like this. Perhaps more attention from people while using their phones might help.
