Naples – It's official: Piazza del Plebiscito is preparing to shine with a new light. The joint project for the new lighting of one of Italy's most iconic monuments has been approved, a project that is not only technical but also defined as a true "tool for cultural rebirth."
The approval came at the end of a meeting held at the Prefecture and attended by the heads of all the institutions involved: the State Property Agency, the Municipality of Naples, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, the Metropolitan City, and the Management of the Royal Palace.
The project, which aims to restore "new light and splendor" to the square, is designed by the prestigious lighting design firm Cannata & Partners. The initiative is promoted by the State Property Agency in close collaboration with the City of Naples, the Ministry of Culture (MIC), the Fondo Edifici di Culto (FEC), and the Metropolitan City.
The key element of the news is the institutional synergy that made this step possible.

With the completion of the technical and economic feasibility study, the operational phase is now underway. The conference of services is expected shortly, the final formal step to gather all the necessary opinions and approve the lighting system. Projections indicate completion of the work, funded by multiple public sources, by December 2026.
Alongside the lighting, the rebirth of Piazza del Plebiscito is being completed with another major project: the restoration project of the colonnade of the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola and the historic shops behind it has been completed. Work on the first batch of these shops will begin in January 2026, following the recent restoration of the Basilica's pronaos, completed last April.
This series of initiatives marks a "tangible sign of the shared desire to invest in the city's future," restoring one of its symbols to residents and tourists in all its splendor.

It's nice to see something finally being done for our square, but I hope the work doesn't take too long. People need a beautiful place to gather and spend time together, especially with the new lighting.
