Avellino – An act of intimidation occurred just days before its inauguration. Overnight, unknown assailants attempted to set fire to the new municipal headquarters in Moschiano, in the province of Avellino, which was supposed to open next Monday. This act left tangible scars and a deep sense of bitterness in the local community.
The new offices, set up in the premises that once housed the municipal gym, were targeted using a method that leaves no room for doubt: the intruders poured gasoline into several rooms, including the office that the mayor, Sergio Pacia, would soon occupy, before setting it on fire.
Only the timely intervention of the Fire Brigade, who arrived on site after the report, prevented the worst, limiting the damage to the structure.

"So much bitterness over this despicable act," said Mayor Pacia, who has been leading the Irpinia municipality for about a year. A sober comment that captures his concern for an act that strikes at the heart of the country's democratic institutions.
The Carabinieri of the Avellino Company are already working on the case, having launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident. They are combing the area for any witnesses or CCTV footage that could shed light on the mysterious night of fire in Moschiano.
