Over 1400 athletes will be taking part in the Neapolis Marathon this morning alone.

Naples - The Union Gas e Luce Neapolis Marathon got off to a flying start this morning at 8:00 a.m. from Piazza del Plebiscito.

The swarm of runners competing in the three distances — 42 km, 21 km and 11 km non-competitive — took a full nine minutes to completely dissolve.

Participation doubled compared to previous editions: the marathon, which previously attracted 700 participants, this year saw 1400 athletes at the start, according to Rocco Cilla, pacers coordinator. This is a constantly growing event, the result of the organizers' great commitment and strong motivation.

However, the total number of athletes exceeded 5500 across the 42-kilometer marathon, the 21-kilometer half-marathon, and the non-competitive 11-kilometer marathon. Among those attending the race was Neapolitan television host Massimiliano Ossini, representing Searun.
