The Court of Cassation has in fact declared inadmissible the appeals presented by the defense of Lazzaro Cioffi, a former Carabiniere, and Giovanni Cipriano, an entrepreneur, confirming the existence of serious evidence of guilt against them.
This ruling, while nullifying the precautionary measures ordered against them due to procedural defects, reaffirms the solidity of the circumstantial evidence assembled by the Salerno District Anti-Mafia Office. The case now returns to the Court of Review for a comprehensive re-examination of the evidence gathered by investigators.
The Supreme Court's decision was welcomed by the Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore Foundation, which has been fighting for years for the truth about the murder of Pollica's mayor, a symbol of legality and environmental protection.
"The Supreme Court of Cassation has rejected the appeals of two defendants in the murder of our brother Angelo, Cioffi and Cipriano, clearly stating that 'there are serious indications,'" said Dario Vassallo, president of the Foundation. "This judgment has created a lot of hype, but the truth is written in the 80 pages of the investigation by the Salerno Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office. We are at peace because we know the value of those who conducted the investigation: Dr. Rosa Volpe, Dr. Marco Colamonici, and Dr. Giuseppe Borrelli. The State has created the State."
A long and complex investigation, coordinated by the Salerno DDA, which in 2022 led to the registration of nine people in the register of suspects and, in 2023, to the first arrests.

Massimo Vassallo, the Foundation's vice president, also commented on the Supreme Court's decision:
Despite an ongoing trial in Acciaroli, the same four continue to spread false information. The truth about Angelo's murder is concentrated within a hundred meters of space, around the chair where he was sitting on the evening of September 5, 2010. Perhaps the crime is unclear: misdirection. We thank the judiciary and law enforcement for their tenacity and competence. The State, once again, has proven itself to be the State.
The Vassallo Foundation reaffirms its commitment to memory and justice, emphasizing that the judicial process—including investigations, red herrings, and new evidence—is not yet complete, but is finally getting closer to the truth.
"Angelo's sacrifice is the guiding light for our actions," conclude brothers Dario and Massimo. "We will not rest until all responsibility is cleared and the truth is fully established."
