Salerno – Public support for Carabinieri Colonel Fabio Cagnazzo, accused in the trial for the murder of former mayor of Pollica, Angelo Vassallo, has been suspended as a sign of mourning. The demonstration, scheduled for tomorrow, October 17, near the Salerno Courthouse, has been postponed to a later date at the officer's express request.

The decision was made following the tragic tragedy in Castel d'Azzano, where three Carabinieri lost their lives in the line of duty. This loss required a reassessment of priorities.

The Colonel's note: silence and obscurity

The rally was organized by Cagnazzo's relatives and friends with the aim of expressing "concrete sympathy to those fighting for truth and justice," especially after the preliminary hearing began on September 16. The officer, however, insisted on prioritizing respect for the Carabinieri's grief.

In a statement released by his family, Cagnazzo requested the postponement, "embracing the more than 250 people who were ready to reach Salerno."

He then expressed a heartfelt tribute to his deceased colleagues:

"It is essential to honour with silence and closeness the dead and injured of the tragic events of Castel d'Azzano, the sacrifice of those who, following the path of duty, passed ahead," declared Cagnazzo, defining the fallen Carabinieri as "three brothers in arms".

The process and trust in the judiciary

Colonel Fabio Cagnazzo is accused in the investigation into the Vassallo murder together with the former brigadier Lazzaro Cioffi, Romolo Ridosso, the entrepreneur Giuseppe Cipriano and Giovanni Cafiero.

Despite the postponement of the demonstration, Cagnazzo wanted to reiterate his position on the judicial matter. Strong in his "absolute lack of involvement in the disputed facts," he said he was "certain to return to active duty with the Carabinieri soon, having full and unwavering confidence in the judiciary."

"The day of justice will come. Today is the day of pain, always proud of the braids sewn onto our skin," concludes the officer, uniting his personal tragedy with the grief of the entire Institution.
