Piano di Sorrento - An attempted robbery ended in tragedy, or nearly so. The Carabinieri of the Sorrento branch executed a house arrest warrant issued by the Torre Annunziata investigating judge at the request of the Oplonti prosecutor's office. The warrant concerns a 32-year-old local man, who is considered a serious suspect in attempted robbery and aggravated assault.

The incident, which took place on August 28th in Piano di Sorrento, on the Sorrento Peninsula, is unbelievable. The man, taking advantage of the darkness, entered a private home with the intention of robbing it.

But it was the owner of the house who surprised him.

The investigations and the discovery that he had the obligation to report to the judicial police

The investigation, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Carabinieri of the Piano di Sorrento Station, immediately focused on analyzing video surveillance footage from the area. The footage allowed the perpetrator to be identified beyond any doubt.

The most paradoxical aspect of the entire affair, which emerged during the investigation, concerns the vehicle used for his escape. To reach the Sorrento Peninsula and carry out the robbery, the 32-year-old allegedly used the same scooter that, ironically, was used by the same man to fulfill the precautionary measure requiring him to report to the judicial police. A measure to which he was already subject at the time as part of another criminal case against him.

Confirming a modus operandi that wasn't exactly that of a "criminal mastermind," the evidence against him proved overwhelming. The investigating judge therefore upheld the prosecutor's requests, ordering the 32-year-old to be placed under house arrest at his home with an electronic bracelet. This outcome forces him, this time, to remain at home.
