Pollica – In Pollica, the demolition of the former emergency medical center isn't a loss, but a new beginning. Where until last summer, first aid was provided to residents, a next-generation healthcare facility will be built by June 2026: the first community hospital built from scratch by the Salerno Local Health Authority (ASL). This model of community healthcare is designed to restore efficient, accessible, and modern services to the area.
The project, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR – Mission 6 “Health”), represents one of the most concrete steps in the renewal of the local healthcare system.
With its 2.000 square meters of space, the facility will accommodate 20 beds for short-term hospitalization and a year-round emergency service, thus ensuring an immediate and continuous response to the health needs of the Cilento community.
A local healthcare facility
The Pollica Community Hospital will be a Community House, an open and welcoming place where residents and healthcare professionals can meet in an integrated care model. The facility will offer general medicine services, basic diagnostics, nursing care, intermediate care, and psychological support, working closely with general practitioners and the acute care hospitals of the Salerno Local Health Authority (ASL) network.
The technological heart of the project will be telemedicine, which will allow for remote specialist consultations, monitoring chronic patients, sharing reports in real time, and following personalized treatment plans.

Pisani: "We're demolishing to rebuild a new healthcare concept."
"Let's start from here," explains Stefano Pisani, mayor of Pollica. "This project stems from a vision that began in 2015, when we decided to invest in the territorial and social regeneration of our town.
Today we're demolishing to rebuild a new concept of community healthcare: fairer, more accessible, and truly close to people. Pollica is once again becoming a place where living means being able to count on quality services, especially in healthcare.
Pisani emphasizes how the new facility is designed to ensure continuity of care even during the most critical periods, such as the summer months, when the population increases but traditional healthcare services often decline: "Health," he states, "never takes a vacation."
A model for Cilento and for the entire Salerno Local Health Authority
The project, strongly supported by Gennaro Sosto, Director General of the Salerno Local Health Authority, aims to make Pollica a model of healthcare and social innovation. The new Community House will be the first new community hospital built in the entire province of Salerno and is intended as an experimental laboratory for the future of community healthcare, capable of combining physical infrastructure and digital technology, human care and innovation.
With this project, Pollica confirms its position as a forward-looking municipality, investing in the reconstruction not only of the material, but also of the cultural and social aspects of healthcare: a right for all, starting from the local area and returning to the community.
