Ravenna – The situation of Carlo Piccolo, 37, originally from Pomigliano d'Arco, arrested two days ago and held in Ravenna prison, is worsening. Initially charged with attempted murder, the man will now face charges of voluntary manslaughter: Edi Giachi, the 70-year-old man who was run over Thursday evening during what investigators are calling a punitive operation, has died.
The elderly man died yesterday, October 20, at the Bufalini hospital in Cesena, where he had been admitted in very serious conditions.
The reconstruction: a drug fight degenerated into tragedy
According to initial investigations, Piccolo allegedly organized an attack on Giachi's son, with whom he had a disagreement over a small drug debt. The underlying cause was a drug dealing scam: the 37-year-old claimed he had received crack cocaine instead of the cocaine he purchased.
After a threatening phone call, Piccolo allegedly showed up at the young man's house on Via 6 Dicembre 1944, armed with rage and violent intentions. There, he allegedly forcefully hit his rival's car, smashing the rear window and pouring flammable liquid inside.
The situation quickly degenerated into a fight.

The two versions and the ongoing investigations
Regarding the moment of impact, versions differ radically. According to the victim's son, the collision was deliberate and aimed at his father. Piccolo, however, claims he didn't notice the elderly man and fled out of fear, as he was surrounded by four men armed with chains.
The images from surveillance cameras in the area will be crucial in the next few hours, as they could clarify the exact circumstances of what happened.
The precautionary measure and the precedents
The judge confirmed the arrest, ordering Piccolo's pretrial detention. The 37-year-old is already known to law enforcement for several previous convictions related to violence and drug dealing.
With the death of Edi Giachi, what seemed like a punitive expedition gone awry has turned into a bloody affair, shaking the Porto Corsini community and opening yet another chapter of violence linked to the world of drugs and personal vendettas.
