Not only frescoes, mosaics and ruins: Pompei returns to tell its story also through the digital reconstructionThis is the aim of the “POMPEII RESET” project, promoted by Pompeii Archaeological Park together withHumboldt University of Berlin, which today presents a new study on theofficial e-journal of the excavations.
At the centre of the research is the House of the Thiasos, where a monumental staircase, apparently without an exit, has aroused the curiosity of archaeologists.

“Pompeii is a complex laboratory”, explains Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Park. “Alongside field research, today there exists a non-invasive archaeology, made up of studies and hypotheses that help us reconstruct what time has erased.” Through 3D models and techniques digital twin, the project aims to document the buildings still preserved and virtually reconstruct the lost ones.
" Pompei that we don't see – adds Zuchtriegel – It's that of the upper floors, fundamental to truly understanding the life and society of the time. Thanks to technology, we can restore form and meaning to those forgotten spaces.” The results, presented today, show how the fusion between archaeology and technology could rewrite the history of the city buried by Vesuvius, restoring a Pompeii that is more alive, higher and – perhaps – closer to the stars.
