Milan - "Safe mobility today means above all awareness," says Toni Purcaro, president of Dekra Italia, on the sidelines of the Automotive Forum in Milan. "The WHO tells us that every year approximately 1,2 million people die in road accidents, as if a city like Milan were disappearing. We must be clear about the scale of the phenomenon and adopt all the best measures."
Regarding the company's role, Purcaro Dekra celebrates 100 years of service to road safety this year: we service approximately 32 million vehicles a year worldwide and test all on-board technologies to improve safety, including ADAS, which can reduce accidents by 50%. Our future goals are to contribute to improving road safety, enhancing vehicle safety, and ensuring that technology is increasingly at the service of people.

"We need to develop awareness and respect for the rules among all road users: pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and micromobility users," he continues. The 'Safe Secure Sustainable' educational project, promoted by Dekra for students at the Istituto A.Volta in Lodi, falls within this framework. After the theoretical module, the students participated in a practical lesson at the Dekra Flagship Store in Milan, experiencing vehicle inspection and testing procedures.
For Purcaro, "shared training and the use of new technologies must foster a shared culture of safety that involves families, institutions, and operators. It is a collective responsibility." The goal is inspired by the Vision: Drastically reducing road fatalities and serious injuries is only possible with the joint commitment of all stakeholders and the dissemination of a true culture of safety. Augmented and virtual reality can help achieve this goal.

The article touches on a very important topic, but there are many aspects to consider. Road safety isn't just about drivers, it's about everyone. We must all work to reduce accidents; this is fundamental.
I agree that training is essential. However, I don't think technology alone is enough to solve road safety problems. A profound cultural shift is also needed.
