Quarto - A historic day for the Phlegraean Fields community: the new Quarto Municipal Urban Park, built on Via Casalanno, was inaugurated this morning. The structure is named after Giancarlo Siani, the young journalist from Il Mattino who was murdered by the Camorra exactly forty years ago.
The project, funded entirely by the Metropolitan City of Naples with a budget of approximately 430 euros, is not only a new green lung, but a strong signal of redemption and legality, reflecting Siani's sacrifice.
The park covers a total area of 9 square meters, of which 12 are dedicated to green spaces and flowerbeds. The project addresses the needs of residents with the installation of a large children's play area featuring 12 inclusive rides, designed to break down barriers.
Great attention has been paid to the environment: 76 new trees have been planted, including plane trees, jacarandas, cypresses, and carob trees, which will help improve air quality. Additionally, a 400-square-meter area has been specifically designated for dog walking.
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, who attended the inauguration, emphasized the symbolic importance of the initiative.

The project is part of the Metropolitan City's plan for replanting and increasing urban greenery, demonstrating a concrete commitment to eco-sustainability.
Quarto Mayor Antonio Sabino expressed his satisfaction: "It's a wonderful day for our community, which, after forty years of waiting, finally has a new public space open to all. It's the fruit of good political work."
Sabino emphasized that the park is located on public land, a short distance from a complex of properties confiscated from criminals, which is being converted into a community hospital managed by the ASL Napoli Nord. "It's the Quarto of a sustainable future," Sabino concluded.
The total investment in Quarto's greenery amounts to €650, including an additional €220 for the redevelopment of the existing Villa Comunale "Giovanni Paolo II."
The event was also attended by prominent figures such as Geppino Fiorenza, president of the Siani Foundation, magistrate Armando D'Alterio (who reopened the "Siani case"), MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, and regional councilor Loredana Raia, testifying to the civic and institutional significance of the inauguration.

This is very important news for the Quarto community, but there could have been more detail about the project and the park's future management. We hope it will be well maintained over time for everyone.
