SANTA MARIA A VICO – A 53-year-old local woman, already known to law enforcement, has been arrested and definitively convicted of a long list of crimes, from burglary to computer fraud.

The arrest was carried out on the afternoon of Thursday 16 October by the Carabinieri of the Santa Maria a Vico, pursuant to a detention order issued by the Criminal Enforcement Office of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere. The woman, who until yesterday had been at liberty, will now serve a sentence of one year and six months in prison, as established by the judicial authority's order.

A long trail of crimes: from theft to computer fraud

According to investigators, the 53-year-old was found guilty of several criminal acts committed between 2018 and 2023. Specifically, in 2018, she committed a residential burglary and was subsequently responsible for the improper use and counterfeiting of electronic payment instruments, crimes that led to her final conviction.

In addition to these incidents, she was also convicted of conspiracy to impersonate another person in 2023 in Santa Maria la Fossa, where she allegedly attempted to deceive unsuspecting victims and misappropriate money and sensitive data.

From the Carabinieri to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison

After the usual formalities carried out at the Carabinieri station in Santa Maria a Vico, the arrested woman was taken to the women's prison in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, where she will have to serve the sentence imposed.

The investigations that led to the final conviction had already been underway by the Carabinieri, in close collaboration with the Prosecutor's Office, which had reconstructed a pattern of repeated fraudulent conduct, culminating in the prison order executed yesterday.

Yesterday's arrest is part of a broader territorial control plan set up by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Caserta, aimed at combating widespread crime and property crimes which, especially in the towns of the Caserta hinterland, remain among the main critical issues in the area.
