Santa Maria Capua Vetere – Another story of domestic violence, another young woman suffering the consequences of a blind and unjustifiable fury.

This time, the brutality takes on even more disturbing overtones: the victim is a pregnant 18-year-old girl, attacked by her 20-year-old partner inside the house where they had been living together for a few months.

It happened this morning at a home in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in the Caserta area. According to the Carabinieri Operations and Radiomobile Unit, the argument between the two escalated within minutes, turning into physical violence.

The intervention of the Carabinieri and the victim's story

The alarm was triggered by a call to the 112 emergency number, which reported screams coming from the apartment. When the officers arrived, they found the girl in a very agitated state and showing clear signs of assault.

The young woman said she was pushed and hit by her partner at the height of an argument that arose – as often happens in these cases – over trivial matters related to daily life.

Emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene and provided first aid to the victim. However, the girl refused to be taken to the hospital, stating that she wanted to stay at home and did not want to enter a shelter, at least for the time being. She nevertheless decided to temporarily move in with another family to ensure her safety.

The “Red Code” and the complaint

The young attacker, a twenty-year-old from Naples already known to law enforcement, was reported at large for mistreatment of family members or cohabitants.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, immediately informed by the Carabinieri, activated the procedures set forth in the "Red Code," the legislation that guarantees a priority channel for cases of domestic and gender-based violence.

The boy's situation is now being examined by the Judicial Authority, which will evaluate the adoption of any precautionary measures to protect the young woman and the child she is carrying.

A violence that does not stop

The Santa Maria Capua Vetere incident dramatically refocuses attention on a seemingly unrelenting phenomenon. Violence against women continues to occur with disturbing frequency, often within the home, where love turns into possession and vulnerability becomes a target.

According to the most recent data from the Ministry of the Interior, almost 90% of gender-based violence occurs within families or couples, and in many cases the victims are under the age of 25. Attacking a pregnant woman represents a double form of violence: physical and symbolic, because it affects not only the individual but also the life she carries within her.

The reflection

Episodes like this require profound reflection: where are we failing in emotional education and mutual respect? Current events paint a picture of widespread distress, characterized by emotional fragility, a lack of empathy, and an inability to manage anger.

We need more emotional education, more listening in schools and families, and more networking between institutions and the local community. Because every time a woman is attacked, the very essence of civilization is also damaged.
