Santa Marina - A tragedy that tears at the heart of Cilento. A cruel fate has taken the life of Demetrio Lettieri, 29, a young man from Santa Marina, who was the victim of a tragic car accident yesterday afternoon on an inland road in Pantano Isca del Molino, just meters from his family home.
According to an initial reconstruction, the boy was riding his green Kawasaki 750 when – for reasons still being investigated – he collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction.
The young man's father, who was busy working in the fields, was driving the agricultural vehicle. The impact was violent and devastating: there was nothing that could be done for Demetrio.
The drama a few steps from home
The accident occurred around 13:30 PM near the Voglia di Pane bakery. The narrow road, lined with olive groves, is often used by local residents.
According to initial findings by the Carabinieri of the Sapri Company, Demetrio lost control of the motorcycle on a curve, crashing into the front of the tractor. The motorcycle was reduced to a pile of wreckage.
Emergency medical services and local police responded to the scene, but all attempts at resuscitation were in vain. The young man died almost instantly, before his father's eyes, who was in shock and despair.
The country's pain and the judicial procedure
As per standard procedure, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vallo della Lucania ordered the seizure of the vehicles and the transfer of the body to the morgue for an autopsy.
