On Monday afternoon, a State Police operation led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement, on charges of extortion and resisting a public official.
He was also charged with three violations of the Highway Code: driving without a license, lack of insurance coverage, and failure to have the vehicle inspected.
The investigation began with a complaint from a citizen who went to the police station to report receiving repeated phone calls from a man demanding €1.200 in exchange for the return of a car stolen a few days earlier in Afragola. This is known in criminal jargon as a "return horse."
While the man was filing the complaint, the extortion calls continued.

The Flying Squad's "Falchi," alerted to the meeting, set up a stakeout in the designated area. A few minutes later, the suspect arrived on a scooter and collected the envelope containing the money.
His escape attempt was short-lived: officers intervened quickly, apprehending him after a brief chase. The stolen car was later recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
The 22-year-old was then arrested and taken to the police station, where the charges against him were formalized.
