Capua – More bloodshed on the roads of Caserta. Francesco Paternuosto, 56, a resident of Capua, lost his life yesterday morning in a violent collision between his Guzzi motorcycle and a Jaguar on Provincial Road 333, between Bellona and Capua, in the Ferranzano area.

The impact, which occurred around 10:00 a.m. near the RDB factory, left the motorcyclist with no chance of survival. He was thrown from his bike, crashing to the asphalt and hitting his head hard, despite wearing a helmet. His condition immediately appeared desperate: attempts to revive him by the driver and several passing motorists were unsuccessful.

By the time paramedics from 118 and the Carabinieri of the Capua Company arrived on the scene, there was nothing more that could be done for the man. His lifeless body was subsequently transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Sant'Anna and San Sebastiano Hospital in Caserta, where an autopsy ordered by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Public Prosecutor's Office will be performed.

Investigations underway for road homicide

The driver of the car, a young non-commissioned officer of the Guardia di Finanza, is in shock and is now under investigation for road murderHe underwent routine tests, including alcohol and drug tests, the results of which will be crucial to the investigation.
The Carabinieri are reconstructing the crash's dynamics: the primary hypothesis is that one of the two vehicles crossed into the oncoming lane, but a sudden overtaking maneuver or fatal distraction has not been ruled out.

Meanwhile, traffic along the provincial road remained partially blocked for over an hour, with slowdowns and diversions imposed by law enforcement.

The pain of friends

The news of Paternuosto's death deeply shocked the city of Capua, where the man was well-known and appreciated for his kind nature and passion for motors.

Single and self-employed, he loved to travel by motorbike with friends, discovering new routes and landscapes.

On social media, dozens of messages of condolence recalled his enthusiasm and his honesty.

The funeral will be held, after receiving judicial approval, in the church of San Giuseppe, in the Fuori Porta Roma area.

Unsafe roads and broken lives

The Ferranzano tragedy adds to a growing list of road fatalities in the province of Caserta and throughout Campania. According to the latest ISTAT data, the region has seen a 12% increase in fatal accidents compared to last year, with the majority of accidents occurring on provincial and state roads.

Motorcycles and scooters remain the most vulnerable vehicles: between July and September alone, between the Caserta and Naples areas, more than twenty motorcyclists were killed, often in collisions with overtaking cars or on roads lacking adequate road markings.

Provincial Road 333, the scene of yesterday's accident, has long been reported as dangerous by local residents due to the lack of speed bumps and poor lighting.

Every new accident reignites the debate on road safety: checks, maintenance, speed limits, and above all, driving education remain the crucial issues.
“You can't die like this, on a country road, on a Saturday in October,” comments a resident.

Meanwhile, local authorities are announcing plans to install new speed cameras and improve road signs. But the bitter truth is that each time, intervention comes too late—when another life, like Francesco Paternuosto's, has already been lost on the asphalt.

What happened is truly tragic, but I wonder if there are actually effective measures in place to prevent accidents like this. People continue to die, and the roads are unsafe. We need more checks and better signage.
