Irpinia is shaking again. After the strong earthquake of yesterday morning, Saturday, October 25th, with a magnitude of 3.6 recorded in Grottolella at 10:37 a.m., a new series of earthquakes was felt in the area.
The seismic swarm, which has been continuing since last night, reached a new peak this morning at 10:18, when the INGV recorded a magnitude 3.1 tremor with its epicenter about one kilometer south of Montefredane, in the province of Avellino.
The earthquake, located at a depth of 15 kilometers, was also clearly felt in nearby municipalities, including Grottolella, Capriglia Irpina, and the city of Avellino.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, this is an evolving seismic swarm, with tremors ranging in magnitude from 2.1 to over 3 on the Richter scale, which have been occurring for several hours.
The regional Civil Protection and firefighters are in constant contact with the mayors of the affected municipalities to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, INGV technicians continue to record seismic activity, which remains concentrated in the area between Grottolella and Montefredane, one of the most sensitive in the Irpinia region.
A night of apprehension, therefore, for the Avellino area, where the earth continues to move exactly 44 years after the devastating 1980 earthquake that shook the entire province.
