Salerno—Yet another tragic road accident has claimed two lives in the Salerno area, rekindling concerns about road safety in Campania. A 65-year-old man, Saverio Spina, and his wife, Antonietta Aluotto, 57, both from Monte San Giacomo in the Vallo di Diano, died instantly yesterday afternoon in a violent crash on State Road 517 "Variante Bussentina," between Sanza and Buonabitacolo.
The dynamics and the victims
The couple was riding one of the two motorcycles involved in the accident, which also involved a collision with a car. The impact was incredibly violent: the two victims were thrown from the motorcycle and crashed into a wall on either side. They had no escape.
The situation worsens with the serious injury of another motorcyclist, a 45-year-old man from Cava de' Tirreni. He was immediately treated by emergency services and transported by air ambulance to Salerno Hospital. His condition is currently considered very serious, with a guarded prognosis.
Carabinieri and Highway Police responded to the scene to investigate, with the "Variante Bussentina" remaining blocked for hours in both directions.

The never-ending massacre on the streets of Campania
This tragedy is just the latest in a series of tragic incidents that stain the Campania region's asphalt daily. Road accident data in the region remains alarming: recent statistics show that Campania often ranks among the top regions in terms of fatalities, a figure that unfortunately includes a high incidence of pedestrians and, as in this case, motorcyclists involved.
Every year, hundreds of people lose their lives, and the high mortality rate, often linked to speeding, distraction (frequently caused by smartphone use), or failure to comply with regulations, poses an unavoidable urgency in terms of checks, prevention, and investment in road safety.
The community mourns its lost, while the road safety emergency remains an open wound that requires immediate and concrete measures to prevent other families from being torn apart by grief.
