A Camorra hideout in the heart of the Caserta countryside. This is what the Carabinieri of the Mondragone Territorial Unit discovered during a nighttime raid in a rural area of Castel Volturno, a hub for years of drug and arms trafficking linked to local clans.
The operation, launched during a targeted operation to combat drug dealing and the illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition, uncovered a veritable criminal depot: the "bunker" was camouflaged by vegetation and partially buried, close to dense undergrowth, in an area difficult to access even by service vehicles.
Inside the safehouse, the officers found 3,39 kilograms of cocaine, packaged in several sealed packages ready for distribution. Alongside the drugs was an arsenal of ammunition: 441 rounds of various calibers, including 57 7.62x39mm war cartridges, the same used in Kalashnikov assault rifles, as well as pistol and shotgun cartridges (.44 Magnum, .38 Special, 9x21, 7.65, .380, and .22 LR, and even 12-gauge).
The Carabinieri also seized a bulletproof vest under a jacket, without a serial number, and tools for packaging and branding drugs: a metal press and a steel mold, used to imprint the identifying symbols on the blocks, the distinctive sign of the criminal gangs competing for the cocaine market.
A "war" depot in the hands of the clans
The discovery confirms the persistent presence of arsenals and drug depots in the countryside of Castel Volturno, a strategic area for Camorra trafficking and a crossroads for drug flows from abroad.

According to investigators, the quantity of cocaine and the type of ammunition found suggest a logistics base serving an organized network, capable of simultaneously managing drug supplies and weapons.
The war ammunition and the bulletproof vest also suggest a possible connection with armed groups operating along the Domitian coast, which has long been the scene of clashes between criminal factions for control of drug dealing hubs.
All the material found was seized and made available to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Judicial Authority, who is coordinating the investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and weapons and, above all, to identify the leaders of the organization that ran the hideout.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the discovery may be linked to recent anti-drug operations conducted between Castel Volturno, Mondragone, and Villa Literno, where in recent weeks the Carabinieri have intensified controls against drug dealing groups.
A piece in the mosaic of Domitian drug trafficking
The Castel Volturno area remains a crucial hub for drug trafficking between Naples and southern Lazio, a "middle ground" where long-standing Camorra families, new drug trafficking groups, and foreign cells active in retail distribution coexist.
The discovery of 3 kilos of ultra-pure cocaine, likely destined for drug dealing hubs in the Neapolitan hinterland, represents a severe blow to the economic interests of local clans, who continue to use the countryside as a safe haven, out of the spotlight but not from the watchful eyes of law enforcement.
