Pozzuoli – A couple's argument, followed by fury, violence, and finally gunfire, ended in tragedy. The argument that erupted on the evening of September 28th in Pozzuoli, on Corso Umberto I, in the heart of the seaside restaurant and club district, ended in tragedy.
A 60-year-old man and his 31-year-old son were seriously injured after being shot after they intervened to defend a woman who was being attacked by her partner.
After a week of intensive investigations, the Naples Flying Squad and officers from the Pozzuoli Police Station executed a precautionary detention order, issued by the investigating judge of the Naples Court at the request of the Naples Prosecutor's Office, against a 40-year-old man, seriously suspected of double attempted murder and illegal possession and carrying of a firearm.
The fight and the gunshots in the heart of Pozzuoli
According to investigators' reconstruction, it all started as a dispute between spouses. Pozzuoli Local Police officers initially arrived on the scene, calming the situation and removing the couple.
But as soon as the patrol moved away, tensions flared again: the man reportedly began threatening and beating his partner again, attracting the attention of passersby.
At that point, the owner of a local business, moved by the scene, came out to defend the woman. The attacker, however, allegedly struck him violently, sparking a fight that also attracted some of the business owner's relatives to the scene.
Surrounded and clearly agitated, the man fled, but while running he pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The shots struck both father and son, with the former suffering from abdominal injuries and the latter from the legs. The two victims were treated and rushed to the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital in Pozzuoli. The 60-year-old underwent critical surgery, while the son sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The escape and the investigations
Immediately after the shooting, the attacker disappeared, disappearing for several days. Investigators combed the area and collected dozens of witness statements.
As is often the case, the analysis of images from the Pozzuoli Municipality's video surveillance system was crucial: the recorded frames captured the tense moments before and after the shots, allowing the shooter to be identified.
Statements from the injured and some eyewitnesses later confirmed the suspicions, leading the investigating judge to order the precautionary prison measure.
Pozzuoli in shock
The incident deeply shocked the Pozzuoli community. The incident occurred on one of the busiest streets in the center, at a time when restaurants were still open and several families were strolling among the outdoor tables.
Only the prompt action of some shopkeepers, who called for help and temporarily closed their businesses, prevented even more serious consequences.
"It was a scene straight out of a movie, but unfortunately real," a witness said. "After the shots, people ran away screaming, some took refuge in the rooms. We've never seen anything like it here."
The accusations and the judicial turning point
The arrested man, who according to investigative sources has a criminal record for crimes against the person, will now have to answer for double attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
Investigators are trying to understand how he obtained the gun and whether he received assistance in his subsequent escape.
It cannot be ruled out that there may be further developments and further measures against any supporters in the coming hours.
