Avellino – Tragedy struck this morning at the Avellino municipal cemetery, where a 53-year-old woman lost her life after jumping from one of the internal buildings housing the burial niches. The tragedy occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m., before the astonished eyes of several workers who were working inside the cemetery.
According to initial reconstructions, the woman—whose identity has not yet been released—reached the fourth floor of the building and leaned out a window. Nearby, police officers found a stool, indicating that the 53-year-old had used that spot to lean out and jump.
The body fell more than ten meters, landing on several graves below. The impact was devastating: the woman died instantly. All attempts to rescue her by the 118 paramedics, who rushed to the scene along with the State Police and Municipal Police officers, were unsuccessful.
The workers, the first to witness the scene, immediately raised the alarm.

Investigators' initial assessment suggests a deliberate act. No signs of a struggle or evidence suggesting the involvement of other people were found.
The body was transferred to the "Moscati" morgue in Avellino, where it will be available to the judicial authorities for the usual checks.
An episode that shocked the city and the cemetery staff, accustomed to the silence and serenity of the place but not to scenes like this. "We heard a thud, then screams," one of the workers recounted. "We rushed over, but there was nothing we could do."
