Somma Vesuviana – The legal situation for a 70-year-old man from Somma Vesuviana has worsened dramatically. The woman, Vasyl'yeva Olena Georgiyivna (born in 65), of Ukrainian origin, who had been hospitalized in critical condition following a murder attempt at her home, died this afternoon at Camaldoli Hospital in Naples.
This is yet another tragic case of femicide.
The tragedy dates back to August 2019. The investigation, coordinated by the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Company, allowed the reconstruction of the events. It all apparently stemmed from an argument over trivial matters inside the couple's home.
At the height of the argument, the 70-year-old allegedly grabbed a carpenter's mallet and violently hit his wife on the head, causing her very serious injuries and leaving her near death.
In a clumsy attempt to mislead the investigation, the suspect himself had initially requested the intervention of the police by simulating a home robbery.

From reticence to confession and then arrest
Under questioning, the man, although initially reticent, eventually confessed to his responsibilities, admitting to the attack on his partner. He had already been arrested on suspicion of the crime on the afternoon of Sunday, August 3rd.
During the investigation, the alleged murder weapon – a carpenter's mallet – was also found, which had been hidden in a tool shed adjacent to the house.
On August 6, the investigating judge of the Nola Court issued a precautionary prison order against the 70-year-old, whose charge has now been changed to aggravated homicide.
