Somma Vesuviana - A morning of pain and dismay this morning along State Road 268, in the stretch that passes through Somma Vesuviana, where a 27-year-old motorcyclist, Claudio Paone, lost his life in a terrible road accident.

It was just after 6 a.m. when the young man, riding his motorcycle toward Naples, suddenly lost control of his vehicle near Via Seggiari, near a well-known furniture store. The impact with the asphalt was so violent that he was thrown several meters away.

The rescue and the useless rush to the hospital

Some passing motorists noticed the body on the asphalt and immediately raised the alarm by calling 118. Rescue workers and the Carabinieri arrived on the scene, but the young man's condition immediately appeared desperate.

Despite resuscitation attempts on the spot and emergency transport to the hospital, Claudio Paone died shortly after being admitted due to the serious injuries he sustained.

The accident area was temporarily closed to allow for technical surveys and the removal of the vehicle, while traffic on the 268 suffered severe delays for several hours.

The investigation: slippery asphalt or a sudden obstacle

The Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Mobile Radio Unit, together with the military of the Somma Vesuviana station, are investigating the dynamics of the accident.
According to initial speculation, the 27-year-old may have lost control of his motorbike due to slippery asphalt, perhaps caused by the morning humidity, or by a sudden obstacle.

The involvement of another vehicle, which may have triggered the loss of balance, hasn't been ruled out. Security cameras along the highway could provide useful information to clarify the dynamics.

A sunny boy, a lover of two wheels

Claudio Paone was originally from San Giorgio a Cremano but lived in Casoria, where he lived with his family.

Friends describe him as a cheerful, polite boy, passionate about motorbikes and speed, but always careful and prudent.

News of his death spread quickly on social media, where friends and acquaintances remembered him with dozens of messages and photographs. “You had your whole life ahead of you, I still can't believe it,” wrote a friend on Facebook.
“Another young life taken from the streets,” adds an acquaintance.

Yet another victim of the 268

State Road 268, already nicknamed the “road of death” over the years, is once again claiming victims.

Despite modernization efforts and the construction of new junctions, the stretch of road connecting the Vesuvian area to Naples remains one of the most dangerous in Campania, often the scene of serious and fatal accidents.

In recent months alone, there have been numerous accidents along the arterial road, often linked to high speeds, reckless overtaking, or poor road surface conditions.
Pain and anger

The communities of San Giorgio a Cremano and Casoria are united in grief over the tragic passing of the young man.

The mayor of Casoria, through official channels, expressed his closeness to the Paone family, emphasizing that "every death on the road is a collective defeat."

Meanwhile, the family is awaiting authorization to return the body and hold the funeral, which promises to be a well-attended affair.

A new cross on the roads of Campania.

A life cut short at dawn, as the sun was just rising over Vesuvius.
Another tragedy that shines a spotlight on the safety of regional roads, where the combination of speed, inattention, and road hazards too often continues to cost very young lives.
