NAPLES, OCTOBER 31 – Two intense days of site inspections in Naples and Caserta marked the concrete launch of the new cleanup campaign in the Land of Fires, led by Giuseppe Vadalà, the Sole Commissioner for Cleanup. The initiative, called "Rehabilitation Site Visit," had the primary objectives of reporting on the operations carried out, highlighting the efforts of the public and private entities involved, and communicating the results to the public.
Since September 15, over 280 tons of municipal and special waste have been removed from three identified sites in Giugliano in Campania, with a total investment of approximately €264.000. Specifically, in the I Gelsi area, operations have eliminated 28 tons of municipal waste and over 5 tons of special materials.
"We are working in synergy with prefects, mayors, public and private companies, schools, universities, and dioceses to successfully address the problem of waste and pollution," Vadalà said. "I thank the military personnel of the Campania Safe Roads Group for their fundamental contribution to the mission.

The Commissioner explained that the operations are conducted on three interconnected levels—reconnaissance, coordination, and execution—and are planned according to short-, medium-, and long-term priorities. Fifteen interventions are already underway in various municipalities in the provinces of Naples and Caserta by October 2025, pending the launch of the public tender for waste removal and disposal, scheduled for the first week of November.
Deputy Prefect Ciro Silvestro emphasized how the extraordinary removals "embody a combined intervention strategy, capable of regenerating the territory and increasing the resilience of local communities, while promoting a renewed civic and cultural awareness against illegal behavior."
