The Carabinieri's fight against environmental crimes in the Land of Fires continues. In the last few hours, officers from the Provincial Commands of Naples and Caserta have completed a series of extraordinary checks, leading to one arrest and several charges in the municipalities of Giugliano in Campania, Castel Volturno, Mondragone, Falciano del Massico, and Francolise.
In Giugliano, Carabinieri officers from the mobile radio unit caught a 23-year-old man dismantling a stolen car in a remote area. He was selecting the parts to resell, abandoning the unusable remains at the scene. Arrested red-handed, he faces charges of money laundering, receiving stolen goods, and abandonment of waste. He was placed under house arrest by order of the judicial authorities.
In Castel Volturno, the military of the Mondragone Territorial Department, together with the Caserta Ecological Operations Unit, reported a 37-year-old for unauthorized waste management.

In Falciano del Massico, a 55-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were reported for illegal waste management: near their home, Carabinieri officers found the wreckage of a car and three tires. The situation was even more serious in Francolise, where a 49-year-old man had turned his farmland into a scrapyard. Over a 2,000-square-meter area, officers found nine car wrecks and large quantities of plastic and metal.
In Mondragone and Castel Volturno, new illegal landfills have been identified and seized: between Via Appia Antica, Stercolilli, and the areas of Via Carlo Plura and Viale Fiume Po, officers discovered bulky waste, furniture, refrigerators, rubble, bathroom fixtures, and abandoned tires.
All areas have been seized and handed over to the mayors of the respective municipalities for cleanup operations. The Carabinieri will continue their operations in the coming weeks, aiming to break the chain of illegal waste disposal and restore legality to the areas devastated by fires and pollution.

The waste situation in these areas is worrying, but it's good that the Carabinieri are carrying out checks. We hope these arrests will lead to greater awareness and a reduction in these issues in the future.
