AVELLINO, OCTOBER 31 – The earthquake that struck the province of Avellino over the weekend continues to show its effects. In Summonte, a small town of 1.400 inhabitants just outside the capital of Irpinia, Mayor Ivo Capone has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of the town hall due to unsafety. The decision came after inspections conducted by the Fire Department and the municipal technical office, which revealed serious signs of deterioration in the reinforcement and column brackets, reducing the load-bearing capacity of the 1960s-era structure.
The same checks also involved the school complex on Via Piana, where structural issues were found, prompting the administration to close the building as a precaution.

Summonte is the second municipality in Irpinia to declare its Town Hall unsafe, following Santo Stefano del Sole, where Mayor Gerardo Santoli had taken the same measure in recent days. Both measures follow the magnitude 4.0 earthquake recorded Saturday evening in the Sabato Valley, which caused damage and fear throughout the area.
