Teverola - Nine years of nightmare, a judicial ordeal that cost him his health. The Court of Naples North has acquitted Stefano Ruggiero, the former director of the Teverola post office, "for not having committed the crime." He was accused of being an internal accomplice in a €118 robbery that took place in 2015. Also acquitted were the two alleged perpetrators, Giuseppe Iaccarino and Francesco Lindner.
The robbery and the suspicion
It was 2015 when three uncovered bandits armed with guns carried out the robbery at the Teverola post office. Despite surveillance cameras, initial investigations failed to identify the robbers or reveal any involvement of Director Ruggiero.
The turning point came only in 2016, during an investigation by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate: in a wiretap, Giuseppe Iaccarino—already known to law enforcement for several robberies—spoke of a "€150" robbery at a post office in which "the director" also participated as an accomplice.
The misunderstanding that destroyed a life
The CCTV footage, when re-examined, showed Ruggiero moving with the robbers inside the office.

For Ruggiero, now retired, an ordeal began: "Following his involvement in the investigation, he suffered serious physical problems, particularly cardiac problems, and even underwent several operations," the reasons stated.
The trial and the truth
In the courtroom, during the preliminary hearing, the truth emerged: Ruggiero was a victim, forced to cooperate at gunpoint. Furthermore, it was proven that neither Lindner nor Iaccarino were physically present in Teverola at the time of the robbery.
The same Prosecutor's Office of North Naples, which had initially requested and obtained the indictment of the three defendants, later "reconsidered" thanks to the work of lawyers Antimo Castiello (Ruggiero's defense attorney) and Annibale Bove (Lindner's lawyer), requesting and obtaining acquittal for all.
The ruling brings to a close a case that has profoundly affected the life of the former director, who was forced to fight not only in court but also with serious health problems, in a case that demonstrates how a suspicion—even in the absence of concrete evidence—can destroy the life of an innocent person.
