Naples - Immediately after his arrest, Ocone explained his actions to investigators in a few words: "My wife was aggressive and controlling." A cold justification that doesn't erase the horror that unfolded within the four walls of their home.

The 56-year-old already had a history of psychiatric problems: investigators confirmed that in 2011 he had been subjected to compulsory medical treatment (TSO) for chronic psychosis. Since then, according to prosecutor Scarfò, there have been no other significant incidents.

Salvatore Ocone, 56, killed his wife, Elisa Polcino, 52, by repeatedly hitting her with a large rock. He then attacked their two teenage children, aged 15 and 16. The youngest is dead, and his sister is in desperate condition.

The details of what investigators themselves are calling a true "domestic massacre" were reconstructed during a press conference by the Public Prosecutor of Benevento, Gianfranco Scarfò.

"We immediately realized that the boys had been shot in their home," explained Colonel Calandro, provincial commander of the Carabinieri. "From there, we began a race against time to locate the car and try to save the children."

The manhunt and the arrest

Ocone's escape ended a few hours later. The car was spotted by a helicopter. police In the countryside of Ferrazzano, in the province of Campobasso, hidden among the olive trees. When the soldiers approached, the man offered no resistance.

Inside the vehicle, the scene was dramatic: the fifteen-year-old son was already dead, while his 16-year-old sister was dying. Rushed to the hospital, the young woman remains in critical condition.

The Benevento prosecutor's office has opened a case of murder and attempted murder. Investigators are carefully examining the family's life to determine whether there were any overlooked signs or premonitory episodes. Central to this phase will be assessing the man's mental health, already affected by a previous compulsory medical treatment (TSO) in 2011.

An astonished community, that of Paupisi, who now wonders how such a tragedy could have happened within a seemingly normal family, transforming a home into a theatre of violence and desperation.
